While bored out of my mind at work, I decided I would try this little hint I got off of one of my newgroups about how to keep the roots of your twists neat while waiting from them to get nicely locked up.

So, I looped & twisted (my name for the process) the whole back row of my hair, and figured I would leave those in and see how it turns out. IF it looks good and last through a few hair washes, I might get bold and try to do the whole head.

Confession time…. I have been holding off putting locks in my head because of a remarkably odd conversation I had one day on the MARTA (Atlanta’s train system) with this guy. He sat down next to me and asked me if I was so & so… when I said that I wasn’t he said that I looked almost just like a friend of a friend of his who was growing locs and dropping weight at the same time. He said something to the effect that I would look almost just like her once my locs had grown out.

This convo was held during that period of time when I was ‘trying’ to loc my hair in Atlanta. For some odd reason, I think that the person he was talking about WAS me.. and that when I finally make the plunge to get locs, I will also have to fully commit myself to the plunge to lose weight. *sighs* I don’t know….

my own skin

Hmm hmmm hmmm… In love with my hair lately.

I realized just how comfortable I am with myself when I started thinking about whether I would want to be another race if I could switch. Just snap my fingers and be white or asian or hispanic or indian or african or whatever, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I am just peachy keen happy about being just where I am.

As much as I bitch and moan about my weight, I would not trade this body for anybody elses…as much as I groan about what I am going to do with my hair, I wouldn’t exchange being able to feel the rich silky thickness of my hair for anything else. Yeah, I want to be slimmer…but that is just a matter of time. Yes, I want my hair to be longer, but once again, that is just a matter of time.

I am actually HAPPY with what I have to work with…and man it’s a wonderful feeling.

Happy happy joy joy. That’s really all there is.

Takes toooo long....

Anyhow. Over the weekend I took out my braids, colored my hair, and twisted it. *sighs*

Talk about an entire weekend gone. It took me about 8 hours to take me hair out, wash it, and condition it. It took me about two hours to color it, 8 more hours to twist it, and I STILL ain’t too pleased with how it looks.

The color I love, it is a rich black with a red undertone ( goes great with me skin) , but the twists themselves are… so-so. My hair is wonderfully soft, and it really did grow (I could tell from the demarcation line of the reddish color vs. my natural color) almost an inch or so since I colored it. :) Wonderful hm? *sighs*

The love/hate affair I have with my body parts amazes even me sometimes. Ah well.

Life…oh life…oh lifeeeeee…oh life!

Hair Raising

I have hair issues…larger and larger ones.

My braids have about two good weeks left, and that might be stretching it a bit. I am going to trim it this weekend, but I want to figure out a way to get it curled and KEEP it curled. The agony I went through two (or was that one? ) week ago wasn’t worth the 1 ½ days worth of half-assed curls I had. And nothing looks yeecher than a chopped off head of perfectly straight hair.

Hm. I will have to think on this one for a bit. OR maybe I will just take it out this weekend. Hm. That’s a thought. If I go and get some more Pantene, I should be able to take it out over the weekend. *thinks* hmm… and if I do that, I will have to color it again too…hmmmmm. Yeah. I think I will. It will give me something to do this weekend. :) *nods*

Yes… I will. I need to see how much of my hair has grown back out dark already. Maybe I will re-dye the whole mess ebony black again. *sighs* *grins* I just realized that I miss my hair. It’s a damn shame, I have only had these braids for a little over a month now. Ah well… I guess this is just another sign that it is time to get back to the real me. I hope it is kinda warm outside this weekend. That way I can sit on the balcony and do this and hopefully avoid getting hair all into my carpet. :) Yeah.

This is gonna feel gggggooooooddddd.

Dreamilocks

So, this morning I had this dream that I was a concubine to a Sheik who sold me to American slave traders and then I thoroughly seduced the captain of the ship I was on. As I woke up, he was just in the process of giving me a treasure chest full of lovely jewelry.

Hmph…but the main reason I mention it is because I had a head full of gorgeous locks…and that just seemed to me to be a sign that it is getting closer to the time when I need to get locks put in my head. The only problem is that I WANT sisterlocks ™ and the closest places are Detroit & Columbus.

*sighs* Can we talk about COST??? I mean the process itself is expensive as all get out… I’d hate to think of the cost once I add in airfare. But….It either that or waste money by keep getting braids put in. I hope they are at least a little cheaper here. Hmm… it looks like Detroit is my best choice flight price wise. Ugh ugh ugh!! Hey.. what about greyhound? *smiles* Silly girl. That loooks MUCH MUCH better. I would be going to Columbus as it is much closer. :) I’m making plans now.

Speaking of which… I wrote out this long long rant earlier today about me planning stuff and then it falling through… or me worrying about my plans falling through. But back to my hair. I am going to have to make a decision soon, because either my hair is growing remarkably fast, or the braids I got were shoddy ( obviously I’d much prefer the first) , but whatever he case, I am looking less & less up my standard. And mercy KNOWS they won’t last for another month & a half which was my original expectation. Ugh.

Sandy Waves

I need to go and play with my hair. I colored it & put a ‘texturizer’ (baby perm) in it a while ago (Tuesday?) and I love the way it looks and acts…but it is simply DYING to be moisturized. so… love.. peace… & hair grease…

Love & Hair

Forget about Love & Basketball…. the next big movie should be called Love & Hair.

Yes…. this is going to be another one of my hair rants. It’s been entirely too long without one. Okay… before I get into it.. I need to give a description of my hair.
I have shoulder length (on a good day) thick, Thick THICK hair. I am talking thick here people. Amazingly, scarily, thick. I have so much hair on my head that it scares me (and small children who see me with my hair out).
And the simple fact is… each and every strand has a tiny little mind of its own. And the main focus of all of their minds seems to be doing the exact opposite of what I want them to do.
For example: In late December I decided that I wanted to lock my hair…. I figured that since my hair seems to enjoy tangling around each other, it would lock in a matter of days…maybe even hours.
So I put my hair in 137 (yes I counted them) little twists, and figured I would give them about a month and I wouldn’t be able to get rid of them without cutting it all off. I waited…one month… two months…. three months…. and in late March (when I was stressing about the pregnancy) I started messing in my wet hair (I had just gotten out of the shower).
As I was messing in my hair.. one of the twists came out….and another…and another.. and in a matter of a few hours my entire head of hair was free and wild. NO problem… no locking.. very little tangling… just a lot of dust and lint. *siiiiggghhhs* WHY???
However.. if I DARE to consider trying to wear my hair out… it would be such a tangled & crazy looking mess by the end of the day it would take me hours to comb it out. ARGH! *sighs* So for the past few days I have been wandering around with a huge floofy bush of hair… trying to decide what to do with it. I could try to lock again…. but I don’t know… or I could cut it off…but I love my hair too much to do that…. I HATE the way my hair feels straightened (hard crunchy and dead), and I get tired of putting it into cornrows… and I don’t have the time or the money to go to a salon and get someone else to do it for me.

*sighs* Any suggestions?? It is getting way too hot for me to keep wrapping my hair up and wearing hats…. Atlanta sun is NO joke.
